The Nautical Star is probably one of the most widely used symbols in the world today. In fact it's so common that you probably don't even notice it most of the time. The gallery on this site will, in time, show photographs of both the usual and the more unusual places they have been spotted (from boxes of vegetables.. to a casino in LA, from beermats in a pub... to a television advert.) So what is the nautical star a symbol of? Well, that's down to the you, really, It's all about what it means to you, but it's good to be aware of what it means to others. It is well known as a symbol of safety and guidance home to the armed services and seamen (representing the North Star), but it's also a symbol of "belonging" to the gay, lesbian and punk communitiesand and in it's basic form of the pentagram, a symbol of the occult, but I think to most it represets the idea of finding your way, whether it be through life , through adversity, across the sea, down the road or through your own particular set of circumstances. Whether you choose to show your Nautical Star as a tattoo or on a tee-shirt is down to you. I'm very much a no ink person so mine's on my tee-shirt. |
